Using the library

  • Books and story tapes can be borrowed for up to three weeks
  • videos for 1 week
  • Books can be renewed by post or phone

A small charge is made for books not returned on time

Joining the library

  • Joining the library is free
  • There is no lower age limit
  • Children under the age of 16 need the signature of their parent or carer who will also have to provide appropriate identification
  • Children can borrow up to ten items at any one time

Children who wish to borrow from the adult library can do so using a Teenage or Young Adult ticket as long as they have their parent's or carer's written consent

How to find what you want

  • Story books are usually arranged in a-z order of the writer's name
  • Stories suitable for beginner readers are marked with a green spot
  • Picture books for older children are marked with a yellow spot
  • Books for Young Adults are marked with an orange spot and are shelved in the adult part of the library
  • Information books are usually arranged by subject area
  • If the book you want is not on the shelf it can be reserved. There is no reservation charge when children reserve children's books, story tapes or videos
  • If you can't find what you need, please ask for help

Activities

Activities for children, including storytimes, reading clubs, holiday events and competitions are held in many libraries and will be advertised locally.

Storytapes

Children's story tapes are available from all libraries. There is a small charge for this service except to children with special needs.

Videos

Videos can be requested at any library. Children may hire U certificate videos on their own ticket. All videos are charged at the same rate.

Internet Access

All our libraries now have access to the Internet. Children under the age of 16 may use the Internet if they have their parent's or carer's written consent.
