PURPOSE
The Askrigg Foundation is a Charitable Trust (Charity Number 500838) whose Trustees work to `help the Vicar of Askrigg and the local Church in their Christian Ministry'. The main focus of the Foundation is to raise funds for their Bursary Fund allowing under-privileged youngsters to attend Low Mill Outdoor Centre (see below).
AIM
The ministry is exercised in serving the local community and being of service to our visitors.
ST OSWALD'S, ASKRIGG & ST MATTHEW'S STALLING BUSK
Our two Parish Churches are at the heart of our ministry. The work which stems from these is supported by the Foundation in a number of ways.
PARISH OFFICE
This is above the shop and Post Office in Askrigg. The Foundation Secretary manages our office which services our Church Councils and other local organisations.
ASKRIGG INDUSTRIES LIMITED (ASKIND)
A small limited company, (independent of The Askrigg Foundation) operating as the village shop, and based in the premises below the Parish Office, which:
Provides local employment
Serves the village with the sale of goods, including newspapers and magazines
Helps visitors (the shop is an information centre for the Yorkshire Dales National Park) by
selling maps, guide books, local walk routes, and providing tourist information.
Acts as an outlet for locally made goods.
Is the home of the village Post Office
LOW MILL RESIDENTIAL YOUTH CENTRE
The Foundation founded and established Low Mill Outdoor Centre which is open all the year round for courses for the young, regardless of sex, race or creed. The Centre includes a wing for the physically handicapped. The Askrigg Foundation administers the Bursary Fund to enable those who cannot afford it to make use of those facilities.
